MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA) – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Provincial Training Center (TESDA-PTC) in Misamis Oriental recently joined the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).
It aims to raise awareness and promote compelling action against VAWC, aligning with the national goal of eliminating all forms of abuse and violence.
The campaign kicked off at the local government unit of Libertad, Misamis Oriental.
Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) head Jennielyn Bogacia of Libertad Municipal Police Station led the Anti-VAWC Awareness session, highlighting the critical issues surrounding violence against women and children while offering solutions for addressing these challenges.
The TESDA-PTC Misamis Oriental also participated in the Anti-VAW Sine TVET (Technical-Vocational Education and Training), featuring educational videos and discussions. With the theme “Anti-VAW: Recognizing and Addressing VAW in TVET,” the event emphasized the vital role of TVET institutions in promoting respect and equality.
A Siomai-making session that the organizers sponsored on December 6 at Gitagum, Misamis Oriental, equipped women from various barangays with practical skills to boost their economic independence and social empowerment.
Hands-on training on Banana Chips-making followed on December 10 in Lubluban, Misamis Oriental, equipping 15 women with skills for income generation, strengthening their resilience against violence. The following day, a special session on Chicken Nuggets-making for 15 PWDs (Persons with Disabilities) illustrated inclusivity.
The campaign wrapped up on December 12 with a parade and a forum on “Positive Masculinity,” underscoring men’s vital role in advancing the fight to end VAWC.
Deputy Chief of Police Jeanny A. Relevo spoke and inspired the trainees to view men as allies in the fight against violence, promoting accountability and respect for women and children.
A skills training on Sandwich and Fruit Soda-making, attended by 222 individuals from all barangays in Libertad, Misamis Oriental, capped the 18-day anti-VAWC campaign that reaffirmed the community’s commitment to achieving the campaign goals. (TESDA-10/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
