TESDA reminds academic institutions to register their tech-voc programs

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-7) is encouraging all academic institutions to register their technical-vocational courses.

During the recent Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, TESDA 7 assistant regional director and Cebu provincial director Floro T. Ringca discussed the Unified TVET Program Registration and Accreditation System (UTPRAS), which requires the Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) to register their Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs with TESDA.

UTPRAS is a system that ensures the compliance of the TVIs with the requirements prescribed under the promulgated training regulations, such as curricular programs, faculty and staff qualifications, physical sites and facilities, tools, equipment, among others.

Ringca disclosed that there are still institutions that are not accredited with TESDA and yet are offering TVET programs.

“Aduna man gud mga eskwelahan nga ga-offer, moingon driving NC II… pero kung imo trace nato sa atoang registered programs wala ma-register sila so mao na gitawag nato nga colorum,” Ringca said.

(There are schools that offer programs like the driving course, but if we trace it in our registered programs, they are not registered. So that’s what we call ‘colorum.’)

Ringca also noted that there are unregistered institutions that are offering caregiving, housekeeping, construction, and driving or operating heavy equipment.

He emphasized that only registered institutions can provide legitimate national certificates (NC) and authentication of documents.

Offering unregistered TVET programs is considered illegal, and erring institutions will face penalties or legal action, suspension, and closure.

Business permits of the unregistered institutions may be reported to their local government unit for failing to register with TESDA.

Ringca also shared that TESDA visits unregistered institutions to discuss with them the benefits they could avail of if they are registered.

“I encourage them to register kay atong gihisgutan didto tong mga benepisyo kung maregister sa TESDA,” Ringca said.

(I encourage them to register and tackle with them the benefits if they get to register with TESDA.)

Graduates of registered institutions will have a special order (SO) and their credentials can be verified or authenticated.

“So mo-apply sila og trabaho especially sa gawas, dili na maglisod ang mag graduates,” Ringca said.

(So if they apply for a job especially overseas, graduates will not find it difficult.)

Interested TVET program enrollees are encouraged to check the TESDA compendium online or the ‘TVI with Registered Program’ for the list of registered and accredited institutions.

Central Visayas has a total of 300 TVET providers and 1,195 total TVET programs combined with the With Training Regulation (WTR), No Training Regulation (NTR), and Mobile Training Program (MTP).
