QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – Filipinos from various parts of the country will showcase their excellence and expertise in different skills areas in the Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC) led by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The PNSC is an annual event that aims to provide an avenue for skilled workers and graduates of technical vocational schools and training centers across the nation to be recognized and celebrated in view of their contribution to the global competitiveness of Filipinos.

The skills areas that will be showcased in the 2024 PNSC include cooking, welding, cabinet-making, carpentry, and other categories aligned with the current industry demands such as cybersecurity, web technologies, information network cabling, mechatronics, electronics, and IT network systems administration, among others.

In a statement following the 72 percent approval rating and 58 percent trust rating of Filipinos according to Pahayag 2024 2nd Quarter Survey, TESDA Secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu highlighted the agency’s commitment to bring technical-vocational education and training (TVET) closer to the reach of Filipinos.

“TESDA continues to make tech-voc training accessible to Filipinos, enabling them to uplift their lives. We offer our deepest gratitude for your continued trust and support in our initiatives,” said Mangudadatu.

“We are dedicated to increasing enrollment in TVET courses among Filipinos. These courses are designed to align with industry standards, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for the evolving demands of the workforce,” he added.

Over 150 Filipino skilled individuals were able to compete during the 2023 PNSC. Winners of the competition will have the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the ASEAN WorldSkills Competition and other international skills competitions.

The TESDA Act of 1994 provided for the implementation of PNSC, citing that the conduct of skills competition will not only promote skills development but also determine the gaps in TVET standards and curricula for further improvement.

The PNSC also provides an opportunity for the national government to forge strategic ties with private institutions and explore potential areas of collaboration towards producing more Filipino skilled professionals. (JMP/PIA-NCR)
