VICTORIA, Laguna (PIA) — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) reaffirms its commitment in enhancing the livelihood skills of Filipinos through community-based training.
On March 28, during the Bagong Calabarzon Barangay Forum of the Philippine Information Agency Calabarzon, TESDA Laguna provided technical and vocational skills training for residents of Brgy. San Roque, Victoria, Laguna that seeks to open employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for its attendees.
Rizalina Gallego, training officer of TESDA Laguna, emphasized the importance of skills certification from the agency in enhancing workforce competitiveness globally.
“Ang lahat po ng OFW, hindi po lumalabas ng Pilipinas ng walang National Certificate ng TESDA. Kaya ang TESDA ay cinereate para po i-angat ang lebel ng ating mga skills worker because we’re competing not just here in the Philippines but sa buong mundo,” she stated.
To further extend the reach and scope of their services, TESDA partners with several barangays in the region through the TESDA sa Barangay program to bring technical education closer to local communities.
These efforts allow individuals, particularly women, to acquire skills that lead to more economic opportunities, either by working or by enabling them to become entrepreneurs.
Gallego adds that TESDA has also partnered with LGUs, schools, and industries to strengthen the Philippine workforce, ensuring that technical skills training remains inclusive and accessible to many Filipinos.
Currently, TESDA offers Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through four key modalities: institution-based, center-based, enterprise-based, and community-based programs.
Under Section 29 of Republic Act 7796 or the TESDA Act of 1994, TESDA has decentralized its training functions, empowering LGUs to provide community-based education and skills development. In Laguna, training centers are established in the cities of Calamba, Biñan, San Pedro, and Santa Rosa, and in the towns of Calauan and Los Baños offering a wide range of training programs, assessments, and certification services.
The agency ensures that its training programs remain relevant to the country’s workforce needs, supporting national economic growth through lifelong learning and career advancement. (CH,KG/PIA-4A)
