Dagupan City (PIA) — Over 1,500 tricycle drivers and operators attended the launch and oath-taking of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) at the De Venecia Sports and Civic Center on Feb. 8.
The activity was part of the “TODA Rescue Program” by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, aimed at helping maintain peace by equipping tricycle drivers and operators to be the eyes and ears of the police in their communities.
Senator Imee Marcos led the ceremony, stressing the importance of tricycle drivers in the community through the provision of essential transportation.
Pangasinan Provincial Director CPOL Rollyfer Capoquian has announced that select TODA Rescue members will get training in basic first-aid and a first-responder seminar, equipping them to respond quickly during emergencies.
“We will teach them basic first aid and a first responder seminar, so they know what to do in case of an incident or accident,” Capoquian said.
With 670 TODA groups in the province, they are expected to help in the fight against criminality and support peace efforts.
Jessie Galvan, a tricycle driver and member of the Federation Triad in Dagupan, spoke about the program’s impact, noting that it allows them to assist in emergency situations and help keep the streets safe.
“As a tricycle driver, this program would enable us to respond quickly to accidents or incidents. We also look forward to being trained in first aid procedures so we can acquire the necessary skills to provide proper assistance during emergencies,” Galvan said.
The event was held in partnership with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), local government units (LGUs), and various TODA groups for effective implementation. (CCT/RPM/PIA Pangasinan)
