Tourism, biz dev’t boost economy in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) – Tourism, together with business venture development, is expected to yield a positive economic growth in the province.

This was noted by 2nd District Rep. Manuel Sagarbarria after Filinvest announced its P9-billion investment in real estate property in the city.

Sagarbarria said this will have a direct impact on the infrastructure and local economy in the city.

“Dumaguete City is the best retirement destination, the standard of the city is uplifted with the investor’s trust us in Dumaguete and this shows that a lot of NegOrense have plenty of money,” the congressman said.

According to Provincial Tourism Board of Management executive director Woodrow “RR” Maquiling, the province is now becoming an emerging destination.

“We ensure sustainability especially in the tourism programs,” said Maquiling.

He added that the real estate property will not only bring in more tourists but also more investments to the city.

“The government is pushing heavily forward and the private sector is investing billions for the good of the province,” said Maquiling.

He said the province positions itself as a choice destination of tourism investments with its positive economic growth, growing investment destination, and government initiatives.

The Provincial Tourism Office has logged over 356,000 tourist arrivals from January to June this year, higher than the 191.03 percent during the same period in 2023.
