Tourism, trade in Camiguin to improve with new airport, bridge projects

CAMIGUIN (PIA) — Driving economic growth, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), together with the provincial government of Camiguin, launched a new airport runway project in the Municipality of Mambajao and a bridge connecting Barangay Benoni in Mahinog to Barangay Maac in Guinsiliban on September 14.

“The Camiguin Airport Runway Construction is expected to boost economic growth by enhancing tourism and facilitating the movement of goods and services,” said DPWH-10 Regional Director Engr. Lilibeth N. Aparecio, noting that the total project cost amounts to P675 million.

She added that by elevating the roadway, the new bridge construction, which amounts to P382 million and spans up to 110 meters with four lanes, will improve travel safety and convenience along the Taguines lagoon and the surrounding roads.

The bridge will elevate the roadway along the Taguines Lagoon, enhancing travel safety and convenience in the surrounding areas.

Key government and project officials, including project proprietor Jordan Tiu, Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo, Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo, and Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, attended the events.

DPWH Regional Director Lilibeth Aparecio, Assistant Secretary Rey Peter Gille, Acting Assistant Regional Director Sabeniano Caliao, Jr., Project Engineer Florentino Macarayo, Jr., Construction Division Chief Virgie Nayve, and Camiguin District Engineering Office District Engineer Alberto Cainghog also attended the event.

Both projects are seen as key drivers of infrastructure development in Camiguin, promising to enhance connectivity and improve the island’s overall economy. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
