Transport chief to economic journalists: Communicate benefits of PH transport infra projects

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) –The Department of Transportation (DOTr) updates the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) on the country’s transportation infrastructure projects in a Forum: “Powering the Economy through Infrastructure Development”, Monday, November 6, 2023 at Intramuros, Manila.

The Transportation Secretary requested the economic journalists to help communicate the benefits of these projects in transforming the transport industry of the country.

“We want our projects to disturb the status quo. That’s because at the outset, we said the status quo in the country’s transport sector is unacceptable,” DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said.

“We are rushing projects to reduce traffic, waiting lines, smoke-belching jeepneys, flight cancellations, and many other passenger inconveniences. The key phrase is public spending on infrastructure that contribute to the economy’s expansion,” Bautista added.

The transport chief set forth transport infrastructure programs and projects of the four (4) sectors of the Department namely; Aviation, Maritime, Railway, and Road. He emphasized transport projects that contain multi-layered social components as we continue to build railways systems, airports, seaports and bike lanes.

Thus, communities and Filipino workers benefit from opportunities that come with it.

He also highlighted NEDA approved infrastructure flagship projects, the push for non-specific thematic initiatives such as transport jobs, safety and security, gender equality and the advocacies of the Department such as digitalization, electric vehicles, and institutional strengthening among others.

“We are directing our multi-sectoral projects towards a common goal—a better travel experience for all. We aspire for a better future with upscaled standards of living,”Bautista said.

The mission is clear: to make the Philippine transportation system comfortable, accessible, safe, sustainable, and affordable for everyone,” Bautista added. (dotr/pia-ncr)
