Tropical storm Leon expected to strengthen into severe tropical storm

MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported that Tropical Storm Leon is expected to intensify and may become a Severe Tropical Storm later today, October 28, or within the next 24 hours.

As of the 5:00 a.m. weather update, Leon was located approximately 840 kilometers east of Central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and gusts of up to 105 km/h. The storm is moving westward at a speed of 10 km/h.

PAGASA indicated that Leon could approach land near Batanes by Wednesday or Thursday, with a potential landfall in Taiwan by Friday.

In addition to the storm’s development, the weather bureau noted that scattered rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao due to the trough or extension of Tropical Storm Leon.
