TUBA, Benguet (PIA) — The local government unit of Tuba, through the Tuba Municipal Health Services Office (MHSO) is encouraging other government offices and the community to join in the search and destroy mosquito breeding sites drive to ensure a healthy and safe environment.
The MHSO conducts the “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign to search and destroy mosquito breeding sites everyday at 4:00 PM to help prevent the increasing cases of dengue.
MHSO Sanitation Inspector I Bhuda Lingbanan said that they are doing this initiative with the help of the community, barangay health workers and the government offices. They help in Oplan Taob disposing tires, cans and possible breeding sites of mosquitoes.

The Tuba MHSO has logged nine dengue cases in the municipality since January 2025.
Aprilyn Guinsiman, a Barangay Health Worker of Poblacion, said that they join the campaign through cleaning the surroundings of their office as well as the barangay hall.
“As part iti nationwide search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, naglinis kami ditoy surroundings ti BHS, kinita mi dagijy stagnant nga danom karo dita ayan ti masmasetas kas makipaset kami iti nationwide search and destroy mosquito breeding sites,” Guinsiman said.
[As part the nationwide search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, we clean the surroundings of the BHS, we checked on areas where there could be stagnant water including plants.]
Guinsiman also shared through their community group chats, they urge the community join the campaign especially those who have children at home.
“Gapu ta uso met tadta iti cellphone, in-try mi nga i-dessiminate iti tattao babaen iti GC tapnu makipaset met dagiti dadduma nga household, nangruna idjay ig-iggeman mi nga areas kas BHW, karkaro dagijay nay adda ti ubbing na,” she said.
[Since cellphone is a trend, we try to disseminate information thru the GC so that more households will join especially those with children at home.]
Lingbanan shared that they conduct information, education and communication campaign to disseminate the importance of the activity to prevent the increase of dengue cases in the area.
The MSHO also plans to conduct in April and June the Oplan Taob with larval surveys in all barangays of Tuba to monitor what areas have high risk of dengue as well as Japanese encephalitis. (JDP/DEG/Ariann Mangayabas- PIA-BSU Intern]
