Tublay LGU celebrates 123rd Foundation Day, Siged Festival

TUBLAY, Benguet (PIA) — The local government of Tublay begins the month-long celebration of  its  123rd Tublay Foundation Day .

Mayor Armando Lauro and Vice Mayor Juan Esnara together with the local officials and other heads of office led kick off program on November 7, 2023 at the municipal gymnasium and the announcement of the  core activities.

Lauro said that this year’s celebration is aimed at promoting the rich eco-tourism industry of the municipality which is now rising.

The celebration  offers various activities which revolve around the theme, “Am-am ni i-Tublay: Tahal ni i-Tublay i nanshighan.” Lined up activities include various forums, technical caravan, agri-eco-tourism  trade fair, tournaments and Search for Ms. Kape 2023.

Part of the  123rd Tublay Foundation Day is the Siged festival which will be launched on Nov. 22. Siged is an Ibaloi term which means “feel the best for all”, and  is adopted by the local government  unit  as the municipal tagline which stands for Sustainability, Innovative, Genuine, Empowerment, and  Development for Tublay.

During the kick off program, Congressman Eric Yap represented by Jairah Siddayao assured his support to the municipality of Tublay for the development and upliftment of Benguet.

The activity was also graced by Filipino and foreign researchers and scientists from the Bio Plus Mine who are  working together to mitigate the associated risks of the abandoned Santo Nino Mines in Tublay.

The main program and celebration will be held on Nov. 22 at the municipal gymnasium. It will start with  a torch parade from the old seat of government in Central Tublay to the municipal hall in Caponga. Traditional rituals will follow and the main activity to be graced by Cong. Eric Yap.

To give  full opportunity for the people of Tublay to participate in the occasion and enjoy the  celebration, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued Proclamation No. 375 declaring November 22, 2023  as a special non-working day in the municipality of Tublay.

As the celebration coincides with November as National Children’s Month, some  of the core activities  are focused on promoting the welfare of children.

On Nov. 8, the local government hosted the orientation on Child Protection Policy for the Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children at the Municipal Hall.

Day Care Children’s Congress  is scheduled on  Nov.  14 while on  Nov. 17 will be Children’s Fair.  Poster marking contest and Children’s  Spelling Bee  will be conducted on Nov. 29.

The Tublay Women’s Assembly and the launching of Pasalubong Center will be held on Nov. 15 at the gym.

The Agri-Eco Tourism Trade Fair  will open on Nov 28, as well as the kick-off of the Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children.

Other activities include Regional Darts Competition on Dec 1 to 3, Youth Development Session on Dec. 2, the Search for Reyna ang Kape 2023 on Dec. 4, and  soft launching of the Aduyon Agriculturation Project and Information on Seed Saving Program on Dec. 5.

Closing ceremonies will be on Dec. 6, which also will be the LGU Officials’ and Employees’ Day.

The municipality of Tublay started as a township which was organized by the American Government under Act No. 48 in November 1900.

Tublay which is about 13 kilometers north of Baguio City, is fast becoming  an eco-tourism paradise of Benguet.  Among its  tourists spots are the Polig’s Berry Farm, Beacon Hill Eco-Park,  Bayokbok Falls, Asin Hot Spring, Bengaongao Cave,  Paterno Cave, and Kitong Falls.
