CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA7) — The Municipality of Tuburan turned over a 2,000-square meter lot to the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) for the latter’s planned satellite office to be established in the town.
This after the DA-BAR identified Tuburan to host one of its six satellite offices nationwide, and the only one in Visayas.
DA-BAR director Junel Soriano said their satellite office in Tuburan will be the DA-BAR has chosen the municipality of Tuburan as their only satellite office in Visayas.
There will also be satellite offices to be established in Luzon and Mindanao areas.
Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante led the ceremonial turnover of the lot during the recent Post-SONA Forum in Tuburan held by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) through the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
“Para naman mapakinabangan at tsaka makapag-umpisa sina Dir. Junel, para malagyan din nila ng pundo. Magkakaroon tayo ngayon ng turnover, ceremonial turnover ng lupa para duon sa DA-BAR office natin dito sa bayan ng Tuburan,” Diamante said.
(In order for them to start and so they can also gain funds, today we will have a ceremonial turnover of the land for our DA-BAR office here in the town of Tuburan.)
Soriano said their agency, as the research arm of DA, is mandated to develop new technologies to improve harvest and income of the farmers and fisherfolks.
Soriano shared that their office’s expansion through satellite offices aims to strengthen agricultural research and development in the country.
“Ang pangunahin layunin ng opisina ay para makabuo ng mga bagong teknolohiya, teknolohiya sa pagsasaka sa pangisdaan, teknolohiya kung paano mapaangat yung ani natin, kung paano mapaangat yung kita nating mga magsasaka at mangingisda,” Soriano said.
(The main purpose of the office is to develop new technologies, technology in fishing and farming, technology to increase our harvest, how to increase the income of our farmers and fishermen.)
Soriano added that DA-BAR also coordinates and funds research across institutions including government agencies, state universities and colleges, and research organizations.
“Hindi lamang namamahala, kundi nagbibigay po kami ng pondo para po makabuo tayo ng mga bagong pamamaraan para po umangat po ang ating kabuhayan,” he said.
