TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) — Tuguegarao Mayor Maila S. Ting-Que publicly presented updates and accomplishments on city projects since the start of her term in mid-2022. The so-called State of the City Address was held during Tuguegarao’s cityhood commemoration and celebration yesterday.
With regard to education, Mayor Ting-Que highlighted the completion of various school facilities in elementary and integrated schools across the city, including the Tuguegarao City Science High School. She also noted the completion and improvement of the roads around the Cagayan State University – Carig Campus.
In addition, the mayor underscored the city’s proper implementation of scholarships to tertiary students wherein more than 1,800 individuals became beneficiaries. Moreover, she reported the support extended to student athletes and campus journalists who participated in competitions beyond the city and the country.
In accordance with her thrusts for the education sector, she guaranteed that no Tuguegaraoeño will be left behind as regards the availment of quality education.
For peace and order, the mayor bared the support the city provided to its local police force. She also commended the efficiency of the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, other uniformed personnel, as well as the city’s traffic management units for their respective contributions to security and order.
Under the health sector, Ting-Que reported the improvement of the Tuguegarao City People’s General Hospital (TCPGH) and barangay health centers, and the provision of trainings for barangay health workers and nutritionists. She added the establishment of a competent community health clinic in Barangay Libag, acquisition of additional ambulances and manpower for the City Health Office and the TCPGH, as well as the promotion of its health workers.
With regard to social welfare, it was reported that the city government has sustained its supplementary feeding program for its child development centers, aside from providing support to physically vulnerable sectors in terms of wheelchairs, crutches, and other assistive devices.

Aside from extending cash assistance to tricycle drivers and indigent residents, the city government also oversaw the social reintegration of children in conflict with law, conduct of livelihood training for senior citizens, and provision of Bahayanihan housing for indigents.
As for infrastructure development, Mayor Ting-Que reported the improvement of roads in Barangay Atulayan and around the Tuguegarao City Commercial Center. She also revealed the upcoming establishment of the Tuguegarao City Cultural Center, which will house all of the city’s cultural affairs and projects.
According to the mayor, her current term also saw the improvement of the People’s Gymnasium, as well as the installation of drainages in outlying barangays in order to mitigate future flooding.
As regards agriculture, the mayor reported the distribution of crop seeds and fertilizer vouchers and provision of trainings for the city’s farmers. She also ensured that the city government is always ready to extend support to the agricultural sector during calamities.
The mayor’s address also included updates on the city government’s institutional development, such as promotion and regularization of its workers and streamlining of its services. It also includes reports on the tourism and business sectors, as well as the fields of disaster risk reduction and environmental protection.
