TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) – Region 2 hosted an international summit on digital technology and employment at the Cagayan State University – Andrews Campus in Tuguegarao City.
The three-day conference was attended by representatives from the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and is focused on fostering collaborations for digital jobs in the region.
Jaemie Ruiz-Chua, of the DICT Office of the Undersecretary for Support Services, said the convention endeavors to establish mutual cooperation within ASEAN countries in promoting information and communications technology (ICT) research and development, and synergizing digital job creation and mapping of job requirements.
The event also included diverse lectures that touched on empowering digital workers in the ICT industry and supporting talents for job opportunities.
Chua said the Philippines is subsumed under a new wave of globalization where there is an increase in digitization and traceability of business servicing products such as ICT-enabled products and services.

As such, the Philippines, as a main ICT services provider to other countries, requires the strengthening of its ICT workforce through adaptive and responsive digital knowledge, specifically by providing more digital jobs, access to ICT technical skills, and empowering micro-entrepreneurs and businesses through the use of ICT resources.

This initiative is expected to be strengthened further through synergy and collaboration with the country’s co-ASEAN members, which will potentially succeed in the initial steps, such as the organization of inter-ASEAN conferences.
Aside from relevant lectures, the convention also included reports on digital jobs from each of the member countries of the ASEAN. (OTB/JKC/PIA-2)
