ILIGAN CITY (PIA) — Residents of Barangays Kalilangan and Panoroganan heere are expected to gain full access to electricity within two to three months, following years without power.
Locals expressed relief during a community forum at the Kalilangan gymnasium, where they were updated on the ongoing efforts to bring electricity to households.
“Kami sa Barangay Kalilangan dako kaayo among pasalamat sa ILPI. Hinaot unta as soon as possible makasuga jud mi kay sa barangay daghan kaayo’g panginahanglanon,” said Barangay Kagawad Khalil Macausor.
(We, in Barangay Kalilangan are very grateful to ILPI. We hope that, as soon as possible, we will finally have electricity because there are so many needs in our barangay.)
The forum also addressed residents’ questions about the application process and provided safety reminders.
Iligan Light and Power, Inc. (ILPI), the city’s power distributor, organized the event as part of its service expansion.
Engineer Danilo Bagtasos, ILPI Vice President for Operations, said Kalilangan and Panoroganan were among the last areas to be connected due to landslides that damaged roads and power lines.
With road repairs completed, Bagtasos said connection applications are now being processed. About 35 applications remain pending due to an expired permit but ILPI is working with the City Engineer’s Office to resolve this.
“Hopefully, it is just a matter of application, i-comply ang requirements, permit kay mao mana ang importante, these are things na kailangan nato trabahoon kay requirement. Gamay nalang jud ni nga trabaho. It’s just a matter of cooperation, mag-coordinate lang ang ILPI with the City Engineer’s Office,” he said.
(Hopefully, it’s just a matter of application. The requirements need to be complied with, especially the permit, since that’s the most important. These are things we need to work on because they’re part of the process. There’s just a little work left. It’s just a matter of cooperation, and ILPI just needs to coordinate with the City Engineer’s Office.)
Bagtasos also reminded residents to prioritize electrical safety and to report any damaged lines or obstructions.
“Ang atong kuryente kinahanglan nato pod bantayan. I-take care kung naa’y notice nga obstruction sa linya, i-report dayon sa ILPI. Kung naa’y linya nga natagak, ayaw duoli, i-report na sa ILPI, kay kami na bahala murestore ana. I-cordon off ninyo ang area nga walay maka-duol,” he added.
(We also need to monitor our electricity lines. Take care, if you notice any obstruction on the line, report it immediately to ILPI.
If a line has fallen, do not go near it, report it to ILPI, and they will handle the restoration. Never attempt to fix it yourself. Cord off the area so no one can get close.)
Bagtasos assured residents that ILPI remains committed to maintaining power lines and supporting access to electricity in all communities. (LELA/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
