BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – A total of 421 families with 1,115 individuals in Abra were evacuated from their homes while one missing person was reported during the onslaught of Typhoon Julian.
Based on the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) report as of 4:00PM of October 1, 2024, there are 140 families with 365 individuals inside evacuation centers. There are also 281 families with 750 individuals who are currently being catered to by their relatives or friends.
Fifteen municipalities in the province reported a total of 9,496 families with 30,087 individuals who were affected by the recent typhoon. Sixteen (16) barangays and one sitio are also inaccessible due to road and river crossing closures.
There are also three partially damaged houses recorded in the province.
The different municipal government units with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local DRRM councils continue to deliver and distribute family food packs, hygiene kits, and other assistance to the displaced and typhoon-affected families.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man from Cabcaburao in San Juan was reported missing on September 29, 2024. He was believed to be swept away by high water level in the river during the storm. Search and rescue is ongoing for the missing individual in coordination with the local government units of Dolores and La Paz.
The rains brought by the typhoon also caused four minor landslides/rockslides/mudslides and 19 swollen rivers/spillways/creeks rendering 28 road sections closed, two road sections one lane passable, and one road section passable to light vehicles only.
As of writing, the PDRRMC reported P67,136,141.44 total estimated cost of damages on identified sectors. Damages on government facilities and buildings recorded the highest at P25,000,000, followed by agricultural crops at P16,794,841.44. Damage in local slope protections, flood controls, spillways, and box culverts among others is at P15,000,000; national roads, bridges, and flood controls at P10,000,000; agri-land at P200,000; fisheries is at P72,000.00; and livestock at P69,300.
The different municipal DRRM councils with the local government units and other concerned agencies in the province are continuously conducting disaster response and relief activities to assist typhoon-affected communities.
As of 4:00PM of 02 October 2024, typhoon Julian is already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility but will still bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Cordillera region. Light to moderate rains are expected in the Western portion of Abra. (JJPM-PIA CAR, Abra)
