United for a VAW-free Philippines

The Philippine Information Agency continues to advocate for the prevention and elimination of violence against women in the country.

On November 28, an event was conducted at the PIA Auditorium in Quezon City to commence the 18-day campaign aimed at ending violence against women.

Speaking at the occasion was Mr. Enrico De Leus of the Quezon City Gender and Development Council Office, who discussed Republic Act 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law).

VAW is defined by the United Nations as any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion, or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life.
