MANILA, (PIA) –The Nationwide Multi-Sectoral Peace Assembly held Tuesday, October 17, 2023, brought together distinguished guests, officials from various government agencies, and community leaders that aims to promote peaceful and orderly elections in preparation for the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in 2023.
The Guest of Honor and Speaker, COMELEC Commissioner In-charge of BSKE 2023, Atty. Rey E. Bulay inspired the audience with his vision for transparent and honest elections.
Atty. Bulay’s dedication to the electoral process sets the stage for a successful and fair election in 2023.
“Today’s event showcases the importance of peace in our democratic processes. Peace and democracy are two sides of the same coin. Democracy thrives in peace; as peace is maintained, there is democracy. Peace is not a passive state of being. It is a conscious choice, a shared commitment, a relentless pursuit.”, Commissioner Bulay said.
The national assembly was graced by the presence of high-ranking officials representing various government agencies pivotal to the success of the upcoming elections: Philippine Coast Guard, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Department of Education (DepED), Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and Faith-based groups.
PNP Chief, Police General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. welcomed all participants and emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order during the electoral process.
“I enjoin you to approach the impending elections with a sense of duty, integrity, and fairness. The decisions we make and the actions we undertake will profoundly affect our fellow citizens’ lives. Let’s foster a political climate rooted in respect, cooperation, and inclusivity, where every Filipino’s voice is recognized and valued,” PGen Acorda said.
A significant and symbolic moment was the “Signing of the Pledge of Commitment,” participated by officials from various government offices, community leaders, and representatives from the private sector to pledge integrity, honesty, fairness, justice, and prudence for the success of BSKE 2023.
The event concluded with the “Releasing of Doves,” which symbolized our collective aspiration for a peaceful and harmonious electoral process that respects the voices and choices of every Filipino.
