UP President Angelo A. Jimenez reported that a total of 17,996 admission notices have been issued, representing approximately 13% of the 135,236 examinees. This year saw a notable increase in first-generation college students, which doubled from last year to 13%.
“UP’s initiatives to reach more students from underserved communities are finally yielding positive results,” Jimenez noted. He emphasized that admission to UP remains highly competitive, with applicants ranked based on their academic preparedness and the specific quotas of their chosen campuses.
Of the admitted students, 55% are from public schools, while 45% come from private institutions. The National Capital Region accounted for 30% of the applicants, followed by CALABARZON at 19% and Central Luzon at 11%. Female applicants made up 60% of the total, while 40% were male.
For those who did not qualify, the portal will display their University Predicted Grade (UPG), which is calculated based on high school performance and UPCAT scores. This information may assist applicants in appealing for admission to certain UP campuses, depending on availability and guidelines.
As part of its commitment to inclusivity, UP has also launched the Lingap Iskolar Program, aimed at supporting first-year students from geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) and low-income backgrounds. The program is designed to alleviate the financial barriers that prevent talented students from enrolling.
“Every year, we see brilliant young Filipinos decide not to pursue their UP dream due to financial hardships,” Jimenez said. “The Lingap Iskolar Program is our promise to ensure that a UP education is accessible to all deserving students, regardless of their circumstances.”
