SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Extension Facility in Pandan, Antique broke ground for the construction of another extension facility in said town.
With the Department of Public Works and Highways and the local government unit of Antique, the groundbreaking event was held on March 10, 2025, at Brgy. Nauring, Pandan.
This was graced by Sen. Loren Legarda, the local government of Antique, and the UPV community, headed by UPV Chancellor Clement C. Camposano.
Pandan Mayor Tomas U. Estoperez, Jr. expressed gratitude to government offices who supported this undertaking.
Bernadette Betsy B. Uy, OIC District Engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) presented the project briefer on behalf of DPWH Western Visayas Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel.
The expansion features a two-storey building with a total area of 945.50 square meters, with a ground floor that can accommodate a 180-person capacity function hall, lobby, audio-visual room, and public comfort rooms.
Meanwhile, the second floor will have 11 rooms with a toilet and bath for in-house guests and students.
The project costs P30 million under the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act.
Camposano underscored the importance of having a strong support system from the province of Antique to secure and help the University grow.
He also provided an overview of the projects that were conducted in Antique and laid out plans for the extension facility.
Meanwhile, Legarda cited UPV as the academy of learning and a university of the people that will teach and mentor youth and the locals about biodiversity, environmental conservation, and implementation of laws.
The UP Visayas Extension Campus in Antique continues to improve its services and facilities to provide a venue for different projects and activities that could benefit not only the people of Antique but also different stakeholders in the region. (AGP/PSM/ PIA Antique with reports from UPV)
