Upgrade of local road in General Tinio underway

CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — The ongoing upgrade of two sections of a local road at barangay Poblacion West in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija is nearing completion.

It has a progress rate of 98 percent, as of September 18.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad said the project involves the concrete paving and re-blocking of a 550.4-meter local road, providing crucial access for local farmers and residents.

Despite its location in the urban and commercial area of the municipality along the Gapan-Fort Magsaysay Road, barangay Poblacion West primarily functions as an agricultural community.

“Previously, the barangay’s gravel roads were dusty in dry seasons and became muddy during wet periods, posing safety risks, especially when lacking proper signage and lighting, which increased the chances of accidents. However, this road upgrading project will address these issues,” he furthered.

Meanwhile, Assistant District Engineer Robert Jay Paniligan pointed out that the continuous improvement of local roads leading to rural areas brings several benefits, including enhanced agricultural productivity and improved access to healthcare and education facilities for local communities.

“Road enhancements like this will make travel easier for residents and local farmers, enabling them to transport their products to nearby markets,” Paniligan added.

The project, implemented under the DPWH’s Basic Infrastructure Program, received a budget allocation of P4.8 million under the 2023 General Appropriations Act. (CLJD-PIA 3)
