QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The city government of Valenzuela has started the 8-day distribution of ‘Balik Eskwela Kits’ among public school students on Monday, August 7, in preparation for the opening of the incoming school year 2023-2024 on August 29.

Some 7,602 students were able to benefit from the said initiative on the first day of distribution. These include beneficiaries from Wawang Pulo Elementary School, Arcadio F. Deato Elementary School, Isla Elementary School, Coloong Elementary School, Andres Fernando Elementary School, P.R. San Diego Elementary School, PIO Valenzuela Elementary School, and Dalandanan Elementary School in District 1.

The said number is out of the 79,451 kindergarten, elementary, and special education (SPED) students that were identified as the target beneficiaries of this P67-million project.

Particularly, the school kit consists of a backpack with eight (8) notebooks, Math and English textbooks, and learning materials such as ruler, intermediate pad paper, and pencil case with pencils, pens, crayons, eraser, and sharpener. It also comes with a free tumbler and lunch box.

“Naiintindihan namin ni Vice Mayor Lorie ang bigat ng gastusin tuwing pasukan, ang ating mga magulang ay nangangamba dahil marami tayong mga expenses paukol sa pag-aaral. Kaya kahit papaano po, ang lokal na pamahalaan ay sinisikap na pagaanin ang gastusin, at higit sa lahat, pagandahin na rin po ang ating kagamitan para maengganyong mag-aral ng mabuti ang ating mga estudyante (Me and Vice Mayor Lorie understand the financial burden of parents every school year. That’s why the local government is striving to help in lessening the expenses and most of all, in encouraging the students by improving our school kits),” said City Mayor Wes Gatchalian.

The local government of Valenzuela has been annually providing free school kits since 2014, benefiting a total of 832,394 students since its launch.

Meanwhile, the remedial reading program Valenzuela Reading Camp 2023 will also commence this month of August to help students who face difficulty in reading and comprehension. This will specifically cater to 1,329 student beneficiaries from the 42 public elementary schools in the city.

Both initiatives are part of the comprehensive Education 360 Degrees Investment Program of the local government which aims to provide inclusive and student-centered learning interventions towards holistically uplifting the quality of the local education system. (VALENZUELA PIO/PIA-NCR)
