Valley cops lead ‘Lakbay Tungo sa Kapayapaan’ for peaceful election initiative

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – Representatives from various government agencies, stakeholders, and political candidates from the province of Cagayan joined the Lakbay Tungo sa Kapayapaan, an initiative to encourage the public to participate in peaceful elections led by the Police Regional Office 2.

The event, in partnership with COMELEC, DILG, DepEd, AFP, PCG, PIA, NICA, NBI, DICT, BJMP, BFP, and other agencies, also featured a Unity Walk,  an Interfaith Prayer Rally, a Candidates’ Forum, and the signing of an Integrity Pledge and Peace Covenant.

In his message, PNP Regional Director Police BGen Antonio P. Marallag, Jr. urged the candidates to demonstrate their commitment to fair and orderly elections by upholding the Integrity Pledge they made.

“We have taken the initiative to deploy police personnel across Region 2 to ensure public safety and a smooth election process,” Marallag added.

Atty. Jerbee Anthony Cortez, COMELEC assistant regional election director, emphasized that this initiative is a vital step toward ensuring fair, clean, and peaceful elections.

Cortez also reminded candidates and stakeholders that, regardless of their political beliefs, backgrounds, or affiliations, they must be united by a common goal—the pursuit of a better tomorrow.

“The Peace Covenant Signing is a significant milestone in our collective effort to uphold the integrity and mutual respect throughout the electoral process,” said Philip A. Tamayao, section chief of DILG, who represented Regional Director Agnes De Leon.

Tamayao added that by signing the covenant, candidates, and stakeholders pledge to adhere to the highest ethical standards and work together to maintain a peaceful and fair environment for the upcoming elections.

“Let us embrace these activities as opportunities to strengthen our democracy, promote civic engagement, and build a future where peace, security, and progress are at the forefront of our society,” Tamayao said.

Similar activities will be conducted in various police stations and local offices to reinforce the commitment to peaceful and credible elections. (ALM/PIA Region 2)
