Vigan City holds bloodletting activity, raises awareness for regular donations

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – The city government of Vigan, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Ilocos Sur Chapter, conducted a mobile bloodletting for this year at the Vigan Culture and Trade Center on Wednesday.

Over 100 personnel of the Vigan City Police Station, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, employees of the city government and government agencies, regular donors, as well as first-time blood donors from the towns of Santo Domingo and Bantay, joined the activity.

According to Elizabeth Quinto, Nurse II of the City Health Office, the activity was conducted in an effort to increase local blood supplies, and help address medical needs in the city.

This not only aims to replenish stocks but also strives to raise awareness about the significance of regular blood donations and their preparation when shortages of blood occur.

Quinto underscored the importance of participating in bloodletting activities.

“Masaya kami dahil maraming pumunta para mag-donate ng dugo, at dahil dito ay makakatulong sila para madagdagan pa ang ating mga suplay ng dugo sa lungsod,” she said.

(We are glad because a lot of people came to donate blood, and because of this, they will be able to help increase our blood supply in the city.)

She added, “Para ito sa mga nangangailangan sa ating lugar, kaya patuloy kaming nagsasagawa ng bloodletting every quarter para mas marami pa tayong matulungan sa ating komunidad.”

(This is for those in need in our area, so we will continue to conduct bloodletting every quarter so that we can help more people in our community.)

Through the activity, 101 units of blood were collected.

Jhon Bryan Peralta, a first-time blood donor, said, “I hope sa pagdo-donate ko ng dugo ay makakatulong ito sa mga nangangailangan sa ating lugar lalong-lalo na sa mga batang may sakit.”

(In donating blood, I hope to help those in need of blood in our area, especially children who are sick.)

The City Health Office expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed their time and effort to donate blood.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa mga blood donors dahil hindi magiging successful ito kung wala sila, sila ang tunay na heroes natin, dahil nakalikom tayo ng dugo upang makatulong sa mga nangangailangan,” said Quinto.

(We are grateful to the blood donors because it would not be successful without them because they are our true heroes; it is because of them that we collected blood to help those in need.)

Further, Quinto encouraged residents to join future bloodletting activities of the city government to maintain stable blood reserves for emergency situations. (AMB/ATV/VGS, PIA Ilocos Sur)
