Vigan City job fair brings career opportunities for women

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – In support of women’s empowerment, the city government of Vigan organized a mini job fair recently at the Vigan Convention Center in honor of National Women’s Month.

A total of 439 job vacancies were available, designed to meet the needs of the local workforce and offer women access to diverse employment opportunities.

Six jobseekers were hired on the spot during the event, with applicants not only from Vigan City but also from neighboring municipalities such as Magsingal, Bantay, Santo Domingo, and Caoayan.

The mini job fair, held in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Ilocos Sur, brought together 10 local employers from diverse industries, ranging from the financial services sector to hospitality, retail, and food services.

The event featured job openings across grocery stores, fast food chains, hotels, manpower agencies, and women’s foundations, reflecting a comprehensive effort to provide a variety of career pathways.

Mary Antonette Avila, local enterprise officer and field office head of DOLE Ilocos Sur, expressed her gratitude for the collaborative efforts behind the event.

“This event allows job seekers and employers to meet in a cost-efficient, accessible, and beneficial venue. We are grateful to the city government of Vigan for their continued support and collaboration in promoting these initiatives,” Avila said.

Maria Feliza Taberna, one of the six successful applicants, shared her inspiring story.

“I decided to give it a try because my current employment is temporary, and I knew this fair could open up more stable opportunities for me. It really is a blessing,” she said.

Taberna’s experience is a testament to the fair’s success in creating opportunities that provide individuals, especially women, with a chance to grow professionally and personally. (AMB/ATV/AQA, PIA Ilocos Sur)
