TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) — Starting Thursday, November 30, 2023, workers in the private sector in Eastern Visayas will receive a P30 daily wage increase by virtue of Wage Order No. RB VIII-23.
The wage order brings the new minimum wage to P405 for the non-agriculture sector and retail or service establishments employing 11 workers and more, while workers in the cottage and handicraft industry, agriculture sector and retail or service establishments employing 10 workers and below will receive P375.
In a press statement, Board Secretary Reynaldo Soliveres of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in the region said the new wage hike was a collegial decision of the board after a careful study considering the socio-economic condition of the region, the workers’ needs and their families, capacity of the workers to pay, among others, as mandated under Republic Act No. 6727 other wise known as the Wage Rationalization Act.
It was also preceded with series of consultations and hearing from various sectors including employers’ groups, industry associations, workers, government agencies and other stakeholders all over the region.
“The pubic was engaged in the discussion on wages and testimonies, and evidences were gathered to determine if wage adjustment is necessary,” Soliveres said.
The regional wage board also issued Wage Order No. RB VIII-DW-04 granting a monthly increase of P500 to the minimum pay of kasambahays, bringing their monthly pay to P5,500 in chartered cities and firt-class municipalities, and P5,000 in other municipalities in the region.
