CATBALOGAN CITY (PIA) — The city government aims to cultivate world-class artists by hosting a visual arts forum and training session, which drew about 40 art enthusiasts as part of the 2025 National Arts Month celebration.

According to Ronaldo N. Espino, administrative assistant of the Catbalogan City Tourism, Culture, Arts & Information Office, the activity aimed to provide learning opportunities for young artists and bring together visual artists from various fields.

It also offers opportunities for artists to gain recognition and receive technical support, enhancing their skills and visibility in the creative industry.

The city government invited art experts from Tacloban City, Palo and Baybay City to discuss various visual art styles. Participants collaborated on an art project, creating two framed pieces that reflected their perspectives as young people from Catbalogan.

Kat Dela Cruz, an art expert from Tacloban City and a freelance and full-time artist, shared her experiences related to her art career with the participants. She discussed her journey, including her travels and interactions with various individuals in the art community.

“This kind of event nga ginhihimo nira, damo an nabubuligan nga mga local artist dinhi ha aton. So, thank you for creating this kind of event,” Eugene F. Mana, a freelance illustrator, said.

(This kind of event they have organized helps many local artists here in our area. So, thank you for creating this kind of event.)

The city also organized joint council meetings and training sessions on theatrical performance, among other activities, to enhance artistic excellence and showcase the diversity of Catbalogan’s talent and cultural heritage.

The forum and training are anchored on the theme: “Ani ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin.” (AAC, PIA Samar)
