CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — Pinamalayan Water District General Manager Leonardo G. Porto has assured the public that the water provided by the district is safe for use and meets potable water standards.
Porto clarified that the water supplied to households undergoes regular treatment processes to ensure its safety for daily consumption.
Despite this assurance, Porto recommended that consumers consider purchasing purified water for drinking, particularly during the rainy season when the water supplied by the district may appear cloudy.
“While the water is treated regularly, the rainy season can sometimes affect its clarity. In such cases, it’s safer for consumers to rely on purified water for drinking,” Porto said during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on November 26.
He also addressed the issue of budget constraints faced by water districts, noting that due to limited financial resources, they are unable to build advanced water treatment facilities that could further improve water quality.
“Yung budget limitation [yung] pumipigil sa amin na mag-invest sa mas sopistikadong system sa pag-treat ng tubig. However, kami po ay patuloy na nakatuon sa pagbibigay ng ligtas na tubig sa aming mga konsyumer,” he said.
Despite these challenges, Porto reassured the public that the water supplied by the district continues to meet national safety standards and is thoroughly treated before reaching households.
He emphasized the importance of consumers’ understanding, particularly during adverse weather conditions that may affect water clarity.
During this rainy season, Porto’s call for increased awareness underscores the responsibility of both the water district and the public in ensuring the health and safety of the community. (ALG/PIA MIMAROPA-Oriental Mindoro)
