QUEZON CITY (PIA) — Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. condemned the bombing incident that led to the deaths of four people and injured 42 others at the Dimaporo Gym in Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City on Sunday, December 3.
“I condemn the violent bombing incident that transpired this morning. Terroristic attacks on educational institutions must also be condemned because these are places that promote the culture of peace,” Governor Adiong Jr. said in a statement.
He assured that justice would be served to the families who were killed during the violent attack.
“To the families of those whose lives were lost in this senseless act of violence and terrorism, please accept our deepest condolences and sympathies. We will make sure justice will be served,” the governor said.
Moreover, Congressman Zia Alonto Adiong will extend medical assistance to the wounded and will work closely with the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to investigate the event.
The explosion occurred at seven in the morning when people were gathering for a Catholic Mass, according to Brigadier General Allan Cruz Nobleza, the director of police for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Meanwhile, Mindanao State University (MSU), in a statement posted on Facebook, is “deeply saddened and appalled by the act of violence that occurred during a religious gathering at the university gymnasium.”
It “unequivocally condemns in the strongest possible terms this senseless and horrific act and extends heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.”
MSU suspended classes until further notice. It also commits to providing support and assistance to those affected by the tragedy and taking every measure possible to protect our students, faculty, and staff.”
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao also condemned the explosion and urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to swiftly bring it to justice.
“We stand firm and united against any form of violence and extremism that threatens the peace and harmony of our society. Such acts not only take away innocent lives but also sow fear and discord among our people,” it said in a statement. (KSAA – PIA CPSD)
