West Visayas State U receives research cash grant

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – West Visayas State University (WVSU) recently received a P15,000 incentive from the Iloilo provincial government for the research entitled “Big Data Classifier Base on the Stratified Structure Method on Bayesian Belief Network for Biomedicine Diagnosis Application.”

The research study, presented during the first Provincial Research and Innovation Forum, is integrated into a web-based application prototype that can be used as a decision-making support tool for medical teams in the initial diagnosis of breast cancer patients.

The provincial government said this initiative aims to harness academic expertise in various disciplines to support the province’s “Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive and Resilient” (MoRProGRes) agenda.

“By investing in research-driven solutions, the Iloilo Provincial Government continues to foster innovation that strengthens local industries, promotes environmental sustainability and improves public service delivery,” according to the Capitol press release.

Executive Assistant lawyer Artem Ron Raymundo and Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) head Valme Lujan turned over the check to WVSU representatives, including University Research and Development Center Director Ryan Michael Oducado, Shermie Atesora and Ma. Theresa S. Minor.

The province has also given cash incentives to state universities and higher education institutions such as Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U), Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) and the University of the Philippines-Visayas (UPV) as a continuing partnership and support for their respective research.
