QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The whole-of-government approach was highlighted in the successful repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their dependents from Israel amid its conflict with Hamas in Gaza, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac has emphasized that the whole-of-government approach is a directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to integrate the response of various government agencies in ensuring the safety and welfare of OFWs trapped in conflict-torn countries.
A total of 76 Filipinos comprised this latest batch of repatriates who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 at Pasay City on Nov. 20. This includes 69 caregivers, nine hotel workers, and two dependent children.
This is the 29th batch of Filipino repatriates from Israel following the escalation of the Israeli-Hamas tension.
The repatriates were given cash assistance from the DMW, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and Department of Social Worker and Development (DSWD), while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) awarded them certificates, and the Department of Health (DOH) provided free medical and psychological check-up.
There are around 28,000 Filipinos working in Israel, based on DMW data.
