Women in Pagadian learn baking and pastry making

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) – In celebration of Women’s Month, the city government of Pagadian continues to empower women by providing accessible skills training that transforms their interests into practical business opportunities.

Women of various ages proudly show off their smiles while showcasing their products.

A total of 230 women from 21 participating barangays enthusiastically joined the Baking and Pastry Training, a valuable initiative designed to open doors to new knowledge and livelihood opportunities.

For many unemployed women, this training offered a chance to explore a new field and gain skills that could potentially spark business ideas and generate income.

“Dako gyud kaayo akong kalipay, kay daghan mig nahibaw-an about sa baking and pastry nga madala pud namo sa balay ug mahimo namong negosyo puhon,” said Jocelyn Ansis from Palpalan, Pagadian City expressing her gratitude for this valuable experience.

(I am very happy because we learned a lot about baking and pastry, which we can also bring home and hopefully turn into a business in the future.)

The initiative primarily targets women from far-flung barangays, equipping them with essential skills to improve their economic status. The city government aims to provide women from all walks of life the chance to build a brighter future and become active contributors to the nation’s progress.

“Pananglitan aduna mi kapital, amo gyud ning gamiton sa among panginabuhi diha sa among grupo sa kababahin-an,” said Marieta Burok from Bulatok, Pagadian City, sharing her aspirations to transform this opportunity into a sustainable livelihood.

(If we have the capital, we will really use this for our livelihood within our women’s group.)

A culmination activity is set at the end of this month with each group of trainees receiving startup kits designed to help them begin their own baking businesses. The kits include a brand-new oven and PHP 10,000 worth of baking ingredients, providing a significant boost to turn their dreams into reality.

Participants expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone behind this initiative, especially for the privilege of acquiring skills and knowledge that could open the door to better livelihood opportunities.

The city government of Pagadian spearheaded the activity through the City Social Welfare and Development Office and facilitated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. (CCP/JCN/PIA9)
