SAN PABLO CITY (PIA) — In celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) marked its 10th Purple Action Day Friday, March 21, in San Pablo City.
Purple Action Day is a simultaneous annual activity conducted by CHR regional offices nationwide.
In the Calabarzon region, CHR conducted extensive training on the Magna Carta of Women and Voter’s Education and Human Rights, aligned with the theme “Reflecting and Continuing the Advocacy for Women’s Human Rights,” aimed at strengthening the rights and welfare of women across the country.
In her message, Faydah M. Dumarpa, CHR Philippines’ Focal Commissioner for Gender, emphasized the unwavering stance that women’s rights are human rights, along with the continuous campaign for gender equality and respect for every individual’s dignity. According to Dumarpa, Purple Action Day is an opportunity to amplify women’s voices, call for accountability, fight for rights, and highlight pressing women’s issues.
The event was attended by representatives from local chief executives, Center on Human Rights Education partners, civil society organizations (CSOs), faith-based organizations, and media partners.
Aileen Edades, chief of the Promotion and Advocacy Division of CHR IV-A, discussed RA 9710: Magna Carta of Women, focusing on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPf+30) which advocates for women’s rights and gender equality worldwide.
“BPf+30 also emphasizes the government’s obligation to respect, protect, promote, and fulfill all human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the right to development for all women and girls,” Edades added.
In addition to the Magna Carta of Women, there was a discussion on political participation: Voter education, aimed at enhancing awareness and knowledge among participants about women’s rights and the importance of making informed choices in the upcoming elections.
Lawyer Rexford D. Guevarra, regional director of CHR in Calabarzon, expressed gratitude to the participants and called for the continuous promotion of human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment in political participation.
“Let us continue to work hand in hand, ensuring that every woman’s voice is heard, and her rights are upheld,” he said.
According to CHR, this type of training is a crucial step toward building a society united in recognizing and standing for the human rights of all, especially women.
