CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — To kickstart the university’s 100th anniversary in 2033 and to celebrate institutional legacy, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan held the One Xavier: Centennial Logo Unveiling and Pre-Launch at the Xavier University Little Theater, Corrales Campus, on November 22.
“Since its establishment in 1933, Xavier University has been more than just a place of academic learning. It has served as a home for generations of Xavier Ateneans, fostering their growth and formation. Our university has been the foundation for future productive citizens and leaders who embody the values of excellence and service to our society and the church,” said University President Fr. Mars Tan, SJ.

He called the centennial a “call to action” for continued growth and deeper commitment to the principles of justice, equality, and service.
Vice President Fr. Frank Dennis Savadera, SJ, emphasized the theme “One Xavier,” encouraging reflection and unity as the university prepares for a decade-long celebration culminating in 2033. “To symbolize our journey forward, we are launching today an image of our XU centennial celebration, and we suggest that we call this an icon. We suggest that we call this an artifact of our shared dreams,” he said.
Sharing heartfelt stories of the institution’s rich history, Fr. Antonio Moreno, SJ, graced the stage at Xavier University’s Centennial celebration. Moreno traced the university’s journey from its humble beginnings in 1933 to its present achievements in his talk, Tales of Thanksgiving, Trials, and Triumphs.

He recounted milestones, including the establishment of iconic buildings like Lucas Hall and the chapel, the creation of the College of Agriculture, and Xavier University’s elevation to university status in 1958 under Fr. Francisco Araneta.
The event brought together faculty members, administrators, alumni, and community leaders, reaffirming Xavier University’s enduring impact on education and society in northern Mindanao and beyond. (RTP/PIA-10)
