Your National ID is valid — whatever the type, PSA says

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reminds everyone that all National ID types are official and legally recognized.

Refusing to accept any of them in legitimate transactions is a violation of RA 11055 (Philippine Identification System Act), which mandates their recognition as valid proof of identity.

Through this initiative, the PSA is ensuring that Filipinos gain easier access to public services, financial opportunities, and a more secure future.

Expanding identification services

To improve accessibility and security, the PSA has introduced three formats of the National ID: the PVC Card, a durable plastic ID available at PSA registration centers nationwide; the Paper-Based ID, a printable version valid for all transactions that can be requested at PSA offices or downloaded online; and the Digital ID, a paperless version accessible through the eGovPH app and national-id.gov.ph.

The PSA also launched the National ID eVerify System to authenticate the validity of IDs.

This system verifies identity in two steps: Basic Verification, which confirms a person’s name and birthdate, and Electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC), which uses biometric authentication such as facial recognition and fingerprint scans.

Reaching more communities

To bring these services closer to the people, the PSA continues its CRS Mobile Service Caravan, which provides civil registration and National ID services to underserved communities.

Currently stationed in Candon, Ilocos Sur, the caravan allows residents to obtain birth certificates, request authenticated civil registry documents, and apply for their National ID without traveling long distances.

Christopher C. Flores, Registration Officer III of PSA-Regional Statistical Services Office (PSA-RSSO) Region 1, highlighted the progress of the National ID system:

“As of February 5, over 92 million Filipinos have been registered under the National Identification System. This milestone is a testament to our commitment to bringing secure and efficient identification to every Filipino,” he said.

Ensuring legal compliance

The PSA urges all institutions to comply with RA 11055 and recognize all valid National ID formats in transactions.

By strictly enforcing this law, the agency ensures that every Filipino can fully benefit from the National ID system without barriers or discrimination.

The public is encouraged to use their National IDs to access essential services, conduct financial transactions, and authenticate their identity securely.

With these efforts, the PSA strengthens the government’s push for a fully digital and inclusive identification system nationwide. (CCMT/AIHR/LEG, PIA Region 1)
