Zambo City kicks off special program for employment of 1,503 students

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – A total of 1,503 high school students attended an orientation at the Claret School Gymnasium as part of the first batch of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).

This will prepare them for deployment across various field offices and barangays.

The program offers a 20-day work period during which each student will earn a daily wage of P590.13, totaling P11,802.60 for the duration. Mayor John Dalipe encouraged beneficiaries to seize this opportunity and perform their duties responsibly, emphasizing the privilege of being part of the program.

Further, the orientation aimed to equip the students with essential knowledge for their upcoming roles. Topics covered included Human Resources employment policies and guidelines, the SPES online system, occupational safety and health protocols, and the specific duties and responsibilities of SPES beneficiaries.

Grace, one of the beneficiary express gratitude for the opportunity of this program, “makakatulong po talaga ito para dagdag po pang bayad sa pag-aaral at meron pa po kami bagong matutunan sa pagtatrabaho,” she added.

(This will really help in paying for our studies, and we will also learn new things from working.)

For the first batch, the salaries will be fully funded by the city government through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO). SPES is an annual nationwide program implemented under Republic Act 7323, as amended by Republic Acts No. 9547 and 10917.

This government initiative provides temporary employment opportunities to financially challenged students, helping them remain in school and complete their education by making productive use of their school breaks. (NBE/MLE/PIA Region 9-Zamboanga City)
