Zambo City launches disaster preparedness training for youth

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – The local government here, in collaboration with the Zamboanga Youth Development Office (ZYDO) and the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, began training about 50 youths on disaster preparedness.

Through the “Ready, Set, Respond: Empowering Zamboangueño Youth for Disaster Readiness,” the local government expressed hopes that the youth will be ready in cases of emergencies.

Facilitators from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) conducted comprehensive training sessions, focusing on emergency first aid and basic life support. These sessions are designed to equip the participants with the necessary skills to confidently manage various emergency scenarios and respond effectively during critical situations.

Carol Julianne Dalipe, President of the SK Federation, emphasized the crucial role of youth in the city’s future. She encouraged all participants to fully embrace the training and the knowledge provided. “We recognize that our greatest asset is our youth. You are the torchbearers of tomorrow; the leaders, innovators, and changemakers who will shape the future of our beloved city,” Dalipe stated.

The disaster preparedness training is not limited to Tetuan district. Following this event, the program will continue across various barangays, with sessions scheduled in Labuan on June 14, Pasonanca on June 15, Sta. Maria on June 17, and San Jose Gusu on June 18. These upcoming sessions are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to build a resilient and well-prepared community by empowering its young residents.

The City Government of Zamboanga, ZYDO, and SK Federation are committed to fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience among the youth, ensuring that they are well-equipped to handle disasters and contribute to the safety and well-being of their communities.
