Zambo City meets with transport groups for modernization program

ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 6 (PIA) – The City Government of Zamboanga urges collaboration with stakeholders to assist the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers in the transition to transport modernization.

Mayor John Dalipe recently joined officials from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and other concerned government agencies in a consultative forum on issues regarding the implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) in the city.

LTFRB-9 initiates a consultation forum on the implementation of the PUV Modernization Program with transport groups and other stakeholders in the region. The forum was held on June 27 at the ZSCMST gymnasium to hear the issues and concerns of the City Government and transport sector as well as to explore ways to solve the challenges in the implementation of the program.

One of the concerns of the PUV operators is the financial capabilities and costs of the transition to modernization. However, it was already emphasized by the LTFRB and other government aganecies that they will provide alternative livelihood programs and loan programs for the operators and drivers.

The national and local government agencies gave assurance to the PUV operators that they will be supporting the process of the transition and their concerns may be addressed anytime by their offices.

Dalipe also expresses his gratitude to LTFRB for organizing the meeting that fosters an environment of collaboration and inclusivity, especially involving policies that affect a sizeable portion of the population.

“The public utility vehicle modernization program is not merely a policy; it is a transformational endeavor that impacts the lives of millions of our fellow citizens,” he added.

The city government is pushing for the shaping of public transportation through uniting the government and all stakeholders in building a roadmap that not only modernizes public utility vehicles but also promote accessibility, safety, and sustainability.
