Zambo farmers thank DPWH for new roads

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – The newly constructed roads in this city and the province of Zamboanga del Norte have simplified and improved the work of local farmers.

Joebel Cosmeportugues, a farmer benefiting from the Zamboanga City Diversion Road, said that in the past, they used to take another route and carry the produce themselves. But now, with the new road, their work has become simpler and better.

“We can stock all our harvest here. It’s easier for our service trucks to travel to pick up our harvest and deliver it to our buyers. Thank you, DPWH, for giving us this road,” he happily shared.

The Zamboanga City Diversion Road spans from Barangay Cabaluay-Zambowood-Mampang to the Sta. Catalina Section. It is implemented by the DPWH Regional Office IX.

Meanwhile, Jerry Sali, a farmer benefiting from the construction of the bypass and diversion roads in NRJ Poblacion to Manaol Diversion Road in the municipality of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, said that since the construction of the new superhighway, he has noticed a significant increase in the abundance of livelihood in the area. This abundance has allowed them to engage in trading more effectively, enabling them to sustain themselves and their families.

“With an ample food supply, we can also sell our products to the market, generating income for our families. The improved transportation infrastructure has facilitated the movement of goods and people,” Sali said.

Trucks are now used to transport harvests from the fields to the market. With easier access to downtown areas, they can sell farm products more easily than before, which was difficult, he added. He thanked the DPWH for their dedication and efforts in making the project a reality and contributing to their prosperity.

DPWH Regional Director Cayamombao D. Dia finds joy in knowing that the objectives of their projects are met, contributing to the progress of the people in the Zamboanga Peninsula region.

“There is more to come. We shall help you in building a stronger and more resilient region where opportunities are abundant and the quality of life continually improves. We hope that you will help us in making the nation great,” she said. (EDT/CCP/PIA9)
