ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) — A mini-fashion show, “Ropa Rampa” vibrantly showcased the modern reimagining of elegant Zamboanga Peninsula textiles, serving as both a cultural celebration and a crucial reminder to protect authentic indigenous narratives.
The exhibit was held at SM City Mindpro, a collaborative initiative between the mall and the Isabela City Tourism Office, drawing significant attention from local leaders and the community.
The event showcased the intricate artistry behind Tepo, the traditional woven mats of the Sama and Yakan people, and Tennun, the symbolic handwoven fabric of Isabela City and Basilan Province. These traditional textiles were artfully transformed into contemporary fashion pieces, demonstrating a beautiful fusion of heritage and modernity.
The mini-fashion show brought these creations to life, illustrating the enduring appeal and adaptability of indigenous designs. SM City Mindpro Mall Manager Aileen Ann Enriquez shared her hope that the exhibit would serve as an educational opportunity for mall-goers to learn about the rich heritage embedded in these designs.
“ By embracing this exhibit, we are partaking in a movement that goes beyond aesthetics. It is a celebration of unity through the universal language of style and fashion. As we embark on a visual journey, may we find inspiration, education, and a profound connection to the stories behind this garment,” she said.

Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-9 Regional Head Noemi Edaga emphasized the need for citizens to be aware of the ongoing threat that information disorders pose to the accurate representation of their culture and arts during the celebration.
“There are news that are mixed up, aimed to confuse and bring out of context information. These significantly encompass the narratives of cultural identity and heritage,” said Edaga.
She underscored the need for a proactive and comprehensive strategy to counter distorted narratives that could erode understanding and foster harmful stereotypes. She advocated for strengthened media literacy, accessible education, and diligent fact-checking as essential tools to protect the true stories and profound significance of the culture and fashion so beautifully displayed at the exhibit.
