DIPOLOG CITY (PIA) — Farmers in Zamboanga del Norte received essential training on market preparation during the sixth session of the “Sustainable Intensification through Vegetables Intercropping in Perennial Crops Farming Systems in the Zamboanga Peninsula” (ZamPen SIVI) project held in Sindangan town.

Led by the East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer (EWSKT) Team, the session focused on practical techniques in harvesting, post-harvest handling, and marketing to help farmers maximize the value of their crops.
Participants engaged in hands-on activities such as sorting freshly harvested vegetables, learning to meet local market standards and ensuring produce quality.
With support from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), Area Coordinator Carmen Putian facilitated the transport of sorted produce to the Kadiwa ng Pangulo market in Dipolog City, providing farmers with direct market access.
Farmers expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the skills they gained not only improved their post-harvest processes but also expanded their market opportunities and strengthened their livelihoods.
The ZamPen SIVI project is being implemented in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay to promote sustainable agriculture, crop diversification, and improved income for smallholder farmers. (EDT/PJF/CJH-OJT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
