143 carabao deaths reported in 2 East Samar towns

    Borongan City (23 July) -- Farmers in Arteche and Oras towns this province are now alarmed about the occurrence of the disease resembling Hemorrhagic Septicemia which apparently caused the deaths of some 143 carabaos.
    Prompted by the alarming condition, Provincial Veterinarian, Nilo Mondonedo, reported that his office conducted immediately a series of Animal Health Missions in the rural barangays of the two towns on June 1 to July 4 where they gathered the aforesaid data. Also, their study revealed that some 231 farm animals were infected by the bacteria. But he also disclosed that 116 had been vaccinated and 213 of the animals had been treated. (+)

PPA-DOJ 8 celebrates 32nd anniversary of Adult Probation Law
    Tacloban City (July 23) -- The Parole and Probation Administration Regional Office 8 is commemorating the 32nd Anniversary of the signing of Presidential Decree 968 otherwise known as the Adult Probation Law of 1976, from July 2 to 24, 2008, Director Arturo O. Gabrieles informed.
    This year's theme is "PPA e-services: connecting for efficiency, quality and competitiveness," Director Gabrieles said. He added that the Agency has prepared various activities for the week-long celebration which commenced with a Motorcade along the City's major thoroughfares in the morning of July 21. This was followed by the Commemorative Program on the same day. (+)

Tagalog News: Mahigit 100 MinSCAT students binigyang-kaalaman sa disaster preparedness
    Calapan, Oriental Mindoro (23 July) -- Mahigit sa 100 mag-aaral ng Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT) sa lungsod ng Calapan ang binigyang-kaalaman ng pamahalaang panlalawigan sa "disaster preparedness" sa katatapos na unang serye ng Information Education Campaign ng Provincial Disaster Response Team.
    Magkatuwang na itinaguyod ng National Service Training Program-Civic Welfare Training Service ng MinSCAT at PDRT ang programang naglalayong bigyan ng sapat na kaalaman at kahandaan ang mga kabataan sa anumang uri ng kalamidad. (+)

SYNOPSIS: At 2 a.m. today, an Active Low Pressure Area (ALPA) was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 1,000 kms east northeast of Northern Luzon (22.0°N, 132.0°E). Light to moderate southwesterly surface windflow prevailing over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
FORECAST: Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Southern Luzon, Visayas amd Mindanao and coming from the southwest and west over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms.
