KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato Province (PIA) -- Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Mendoza gave her assurance that the provincial government is doing its best to uplift the welfare of the people, especially farmers in disadvantaged areas.

In line with this, she urged residents to help the provincial government in monitoring whether the projects serve their intended purpose.

Mendoza emphasized that under the province’s Serbisyong Totoo, infrastructure projects, particularly road concreting, are main priorities to provide residents, especially farmers, with much easier and faster means of transporting their agricultural products.

On January 8,  the provincial government handed over a series of road concreting projects to different barangays of the province.

The nine road concreting projects were turned over to the barangays of Molok and Anick in Pigcawayan; Kilala, Kibenes, and Katanayanan in Carmen; Cuyapon in Kabacan; New Abra, and Sta. Maria in Matalam; and New Esperanza in M’lang.

The projects are worth over P75 million, taken from the 2023 Development Fund of the provincial government.

Mendoza explained that the implementation of infrastructure projects in the barangays serves as a ‘localized version” of the national government’s “Build Better and More” program to usher in development, as spelled out in the 8-point socio-economic agenda of President Marcos’ administration.

Expressing his gratitude, Mohmina Marfil, chairperson of Barangay Molok, lauded the provincial government for the implementation of projects in their area.

“Bilang nanay ng barangay, sampu ng aking mga kasamahang opisyales, taos-puso po kaming nagpapasalamat kay Gov. Lala sa proyektong ipinagkaloob sa amin dito sa Barangay Molok. Ito ay napakalaking tulong po sa amin dahil napakalayo po naming sa bayan [As the mother of the barangay and together with my fellow officers, we sincerely thank Gov. Lala for the project granted to us here in Barangay Molok. This is a great help to us because we are very far from town],” she said.

The road concreting project in the barangay, which covers 931 meters, is now being enjoyed by commuters, especially farmers who need it to deliver their agricultural crops to the market.

Honey Glen Orolan, Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson in Barangay Kilala, Carmen, was also thankful that their request for their "bumpy" road to be fixed had been realized.

“Dako gyud ang amoang pasalamat kay Gov. Lala kay dili na gyud maglisod labi na ang mga naga-motor nga estudyante padulong sa eskwelahan [We are very grateful to Gov. Lala because we will be eased out of our difficulties, especially for students who go to school by motorbike],” Orolan said.

The 1-km road concreting project was turned over to the barangay local government unit on Tuesday, January 9.

The Cotabato Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO) technical personnel surveyed the identified barangays where the provincial government targets to put up road concreting projects this year. Meanwhile, just before the end of the last quarter of 2023, the Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO) has completed its survey of 17 out of 36 proposed infrastructure projects for 2024.

According to the PEO, the provincial government, through its Development Fund, allotted a total of P151 million for road concreting projects this year.

The projects will be implemented in the barangays of Lower Glad and Bual Norte in Midsayap; Greenfield, Makalangot, Doroluman, and Ganatan in Arakan; Luvimin, Macebolig, Nuangan, Paco, Singao, and Amas in Kidapawan City; Bulacanon and Jose Rizal in Makilala; Bannawag in Kabacan; Lika in M’lang; and Taculen in Matalam.

The PEO said that they are now processing all the necessary documents to commence the implementation of the projects as soon as possible. (SJDM – PIA Cotabato Province)
