SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte --The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao has posted its highest all-time revenue in 2023 since its creation in 1977.

Port manager Froilan Caturla said that as early as November 30, 2023, the PMO's revenue collection had already reached P664,100,211.20, exceeding the target income of P662,163,745 for the year.

“The impressive surge in revenue can be attributed to the sustained growth in income from the mining industry. The strong nickel production and the increasing global demand of this sector resulted in the positive financial impact in Caraga region, particularly in Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands,” Caturla shared.

"Recognizing this significance, PMO Surigao places great importance on cultivating positive professional relationships with mining companies operating within its jurisdiction. Simultaneously, it diligently oversees the collection of dues, penalties, and other charges owed to the Authority," Caturla added.

Relatively, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau – Caraga Regional Office disclosed that the demand for overall metallic minerals in the region increased, which resulted in the improvement of the sales volume in 2023. Nickeliferous ore improved by 0.33 percent, nickel/cobalt mixed sulfides at 15.66 percent, and chromite sales grew by 1.38 percent.
