NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — The acting provincial fire marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Biliran, Fire Senior Inspector Zardoz V. Abela, has emphasized the importance of collaboration among community stakeholders and raising public awareness to prevent fire incidents.
Abela made his call at the Kapihan sa PIA Biliran on March 1, which was the first activity among the different lined-up activities in the month-long observance of Fire Prevention Month.
He aims to strengthen the capability of the barangays in fire prevention, including increasing the number of high-risk, fire-prone barangays in the province to intensify their campaign on Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan (OLP).
He also gave some safety tips to decrease fire incidents, such as avoiding octopus connections, checking electrical wiring every three to four years, and not throwing lighted cigarette stubs in dried leaves in the open field to prevent grass fires.

The BFP will collaborate with the community this month to conduct capability-building activities such as revalidation and revisiting pre-identified fire hazard barangays, conducting community fire protection planning, barangay fire drills, and simulations in OLP-targeted barangays and red zone areas of the province.
They will conduct open house tours for pupils to all fire stations in the province, symposia or fora, the “BIDA KA” fire square roadshow, the most engaging fire prevention reels contest, the provincial fire olympics, and some corporate social responsibility endeavors.
The BSP province is committed to engaging in various community collaborations, such as conducting fire drill simulations in high-density occupancies like business establishments, schools, and other public buildings.
The BFP Biliran answered questions from government and private media members in the province on the topic of fire prevention month activities and fire safety tips during the Kapihan sa PIA Biliran on March 1, 2024. They also contacted and monitored their partner stakeholders, such as schools, government offices, and private establishments for the KAISA program. This is a modified approach to fire safety awareness with the mission of promoting active participation from all sectors of society.
The theme for the observance is “Sa pag-iwas sa sunog, hindi ka nag-iisa.” (RSV, PIA Biliran)
