TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Surigao del Sur recently turned over the implementation of the 2022 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) to the local governments of Carmen and Cagwait in this province.
PSA Provincial Director Ruel Dres handed over the CBMS containing the up-to-date and accurate household and village data of the municipalities of Carmen and Cagwait to Mayors Jane V. Plaza and Glenn Batiancila, respectively.
Both local chief executives extended their gratitude to PSA as they received the CBMS data, stating, “The comprehensive and accurate data of CBMS are useful for planning and development programs in our locality. The data also provided the poverty status of the LGU, as some communities experienced hunger due to food shortages due to low income of their family members.”
Dres said the local government can use the CBMS data for policy making and implementation of various priority, appropriate development programs and interventions as it contains core indicators on health, nutrition, housing, water and sanitation, education, income, employment, and peace and order.
“The data will aid the local government in making sustainable and appropriate actions to perform well in the core indicators and ensure the general development of the citizens, especially since the CBMS will be integrated with the Census of Population as funded this year by the PSA,” he added.
To institutionalize the CBMS, the PSA in Surigao del Sur plans for its full implementation and expansion, especially for the remaining local government units that have not expressed commitment to the program.
According to Lovervelle Olaco, statistics specialist, “Ten of the 19 LGUs of the province committed to implement the 2022 CBMS, such as Bayabas, Carmen, and Tandag City, that are funded by the PSA, while Bislig City, Cagwait, Carrascal, Madrid, Lianga, San Agustin, and Tago are funded locally by the respective LGUs, including the salaries of the enumerators during the data gathering and implementation.”
Accordingly, the remaining LGUs in Surigao del Sur that have not received comprehensive CBMS data will still have to undergo data review and validation.
Republic Act No. 11315, entitled “An Act Establishing a CBMS and Appropriating Funds,” was signed into law on April 17, 2029 by then-President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
