Kauswagan caravan brings joy to schoolchildren in Northern Samar

CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PIA) — The 22nd Kauswagan Caravan brought joy to schoolchildren in Northern Samar as they received school supplies from the government and private sector benefactors on March 22.

The supplies include paper, notebooks, crayons, pencils, scissors, ball pens, rulers, and other items that were distributed to the children from the barangays of Poblacion, Santo Nino, Pio del Pilar, Progress, Kauswagan, San Antonio, San Pedro, and San Jose.

Renalyn Tornos, an 11-year-old resident of Barangay San Pedro in the town of Biri, said that this is the first time their community will receive assistance from the government and private sectors.

"I am so grateful to receive these kinds of school supplies, and I hope another round of the service caravan will visit our place," said Renalyn.

The caravan provided aid to 3,285 families in remote and impoverished areas, such as food packages, social services, medical care and food assistance, among others.

Biri Mayor Amelita B. Reyes and Barangay Captain Arnel Araojo also expressed their gratitude to the provincial government, national government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other partners.

They appreciated the collaborative effort and the various services provided to the island inhabitants, despite the challenges of reaching the island town of Biri due to the big waves.

Kauswagan Caravan is Gov. Edwin Marino Ogchuan's flagship program. It aims to bring government services closer to the people residing in the barangays, with the support of national government agencies, non-government organizations, the private sector, and other active partners.
