CARD program brings relief to Catarman residents

CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PIA) — Around 6,000 residents from 55 barangays in Catarman town received P3,000 each from the Cash Assistance and Rice Distribution (CARD) program.

“This really is a relief for us and a great help. With the high and increasing prices of basic commodities, my monthly wage is not enough to buy food for my family,” Adrian Saliling, a beneficiary from Barangay Macagtas, said.

The beneficiaries also include senior citizens, persons with disability, solo parents, and indigenous peoples.

The beneficiaries were instructed to purchase 25 kilos of rice at a lower price with the cash assistance they received.

The punong barangay provided a list of beneficiaries which was then submitted to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for further processing and validation.

Mayor Antet Rosales of Catarman reminded the 55 barangay chairpersons to prioritize those who were not included in the previous Emergency Cash Transfer before finalizing the list.

The CARD program was initiated by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez and implemented by the DSWD, in coordination with the office of the 1st District Representative Paul Daza. The program aims to address the increasing rice prices that burden the Filipino people. (AND, PIA Northern Samar)
