TESDA brings technical skills training to the barangays in Agusan Norte

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Caraga recently launched the TESDA sa Barangay Program in Caraga region.

The TESDA sa Barangay is part of TESDA’s commitment to the Bagong Pilipinas governance model under the banner program on "Sa TESDA: Lingap ay Maasahan," as a significant move to bridge the gap in technical vocational education and bringing it closer to the grassroots.

This program is also aligned with the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan (NTESDP) 2023-2028 that is focused on area-based demand-driven Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between TESDA in Agusan del Norte and its partner industries, solidifying collaborations for skills development.

For TESDA, the launching of the TESDA sa Barangay Program in the region was a positive step in delivering its services to the barangay level that will reach and transform more constituents with abilities to produce wealth, provide for their families, and live better lives. Being committed to addressing the technical and vocational needs of the community, especially at the barangay level, Gov. Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante of Agusan del Norte expressed her full support for the program and acknowledged the TESDA’s important role in extending services to remote areas. She also committed the province’s full collaboration to reaching more barangays.

“Our punong barangays are committed to empower their communities by embracing the program on TESDA sa Barangays, as they have important roles to share in the program’s implementation,” said Amante.

Mayor Karen Rosales of Las Nieves town in Agusan del Norte, being one of the beneficiaries, acknowledged the importance of the program, stating, “The TESDA sa Barangay program is a commendable initiative of the agency for technical and vocational skills training for our communities who are in need of government interventions in order to cope up with the current crisis.”

“We will continue to work with TESDA, especially in realizing this program as we strongly believe that this partnership will bring positive change  and empower the people of Las Nieves,” Rosales added.

TESDA Agusan del Norte Provincial Director Carlito F. Quintano said, “TESDA shall strengthen its engagement with the LGUs and expand its services at the grassroots level through the TESDA sa Barangay - a massive skills training program implementation. With the program, TVET can be strategically positioned, mainstreamed, and influenced with budget allocation to professionalize the labor force at the local level and to catalyze the creation of livelihood enterprises for the youth and the marginalized groups who have no access to capital and formal training provisions.”

During the recent launching of the TESDA sa Barangay in Agusan del Norte, a ceremonial signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with its partner industries also took place, solidifying collaborations for skills development. The activity highlighted the awarding of Certificate of TVET Program Registration to LGU-run training centers that recognized their commitment in the provision of quality training.
