Completed infra facilities, road projects benefit rural communities in Northern Samar towns

CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PIA)— The Department of Public Works and Highways Northern Samar Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-NSSDEO) has inaugurated various completed infrastructure facilities and road projects at different locations in the province.

“The recent completion of a multi-purpose covered court by the SecondDistrict Engineering Office of the DPWH is a welcome addition to the facilities that LGU Lapinig is using,” said Eddie Picardal, municipal administrator, referring to one of the four finished projects found in his town costing P12 million.

The 30-by-16-meter covered structure complements the government's efforts to provide more efficient and effective delivery of social services to the Lapinignons, said Picardal, who is also the president of the League of Information Officers of Northern Samar (LIONS).

Picardal said the facility, located next to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, is now utilized by senior citizens for recreation, health, and fitness activities, while various sectors use it as a venue for meetings, skills training, academic, cultural, and extracurricular activities, and sports.

In addition to the multi-purpose covered court, other finished projects were the concreting of a 960-meter roadway connecting barangays in the town of San Roque worth P16 million, as well as the construction of a farm-to-market road in barangay Catigbian to Palmera, with a budget of P59 million, and the Yabyaban-Gibatangan 350-meter roadway in the municipality of Laoang, amounting to P10 million.

Salvador Laguitan, a resident of Barangay Gibatangan, expressed his gratitude to the government for the road construction in his place, as this is a big help in transporting goods and accessing government services.

“These projects from the national government signify that the administration is serious in its goal to have safe and smooth paved roads in all barangays, particularly in rural areas, to ease access and delivery of goods and products from the farm to commercial center,” said DPWH-NSSDEO District EngineerCharlito Carlobos.

Harris Ongchuan, and other officials have underscored the transformative impact of the infrastructure projects on the welfare and improvement of the locals, securing an expanded partnership, joint efforts, and relentless commitment towards building a better, more resilient future for the people of Northern Samar.

The recipient local government executives, on the other hand, expressed gratitude to the government for giving priority to their area and responding to the needs of the people at the grassroots level.  (AND, PIA Northern Samar)
